The 3rd Polish Conference on Memory Studies „(Post)memory in/about Central and Eastern Europe”
Laboratory for the Study of Collective Memory in Post-communist Europe (POSTCOMER), Faculty of Humanities Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and Polish Memory Studies Group/The regional group of Memory Studies Association are pleased to announce The 3rd Polish Conference on Memory Studies „(Post)memory in/about Central and Eastern Europe” (9-10 December 2021, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń).
The 3rd Polish Conference on Memory Studies aims at presenting the results of the newest research within the field conducted by the representatives of different disciplines, such as Cultural Studies, Literary Studies, Sociology, Political Studies, History, Anthropology, and Psychology. The conference is the continuation of the previous meetings organised in Cracow in 2018 and in Warsaw in 2019. This edition focuses on the notion of (post)memory in/about Central and Eastern Europe.
We welcome the papers that focus not only on theoretical aspects of (post)memory in/about Central and Eastern Europe, but also discuss new trends and tendencies in the field and present the results of recently conducted studies. We extend our invitation to scholars representing different disciplines and research centres, including Polish scholars working abroad.
The conference will be held in Polish and English. The conference will take place online and is free to all participants.

Transformations of Shoah Trauma in Post-2000 Literatures
In the eighty years since the end of the Second World War, perspectives on the Shoah have evolved significantly, shaped by geopolitical and social factors. ese shifts have encompassed periods of silence, an inability or unwillingness to process the catastrophe´s exceptional scale, and movements toward visibility, fascination, marginalization, denial, privatization, instrumentalization and commercialization. As historical distance grows, new generations of writers, artists, and scholars face the challenge of representing this trauma in ways that engage contemporary audiences while remaining anchored in historical memory.
Post-Socialist Memory in Global Perspective: Postcolonialism, Post-transition, Post-trauma
The conference will take place exclusively online. The conference language is English. The conference will run over two weeks, four days a week (Monday through Thursday): 21 September to 24 September and 28 September to 1 October.
PoSoCoMeS panels at the Memory Studies Association 2022 online conference
This year, in addition to the onsite convention in Seoul, the MSA conference will have an online edition organized by Working and Regional groups, which will take place on July 11-12. The PoSoCoMeS is planning a double panel with the topic of Dialogic Memories of the 1970-90s ‘Transitions’ Across the World: Current Practices and Possible Solidarities.
