Gaston Dorren: Linguistic cultures around the world / odczyt
Instytut Językoznawstwa UMK zaprasza na odczyt Gastona Dorrena "Linguistic cultures around the world”, który odbędzie się w Toruniu
18 lutego 2020 r. o godz. 12:00 na Wydziale Humanistycznym w Collegium Maius (ul. Fosa Staromiejska 3) w sali 307.
Based on my books Babel and Lingo, I will show how languages are more diverse than even many linguists realise - let alone laypeople. This is true both for internal features, such as grammar and phonology, and for the 'linguistic culture' that pervades each language.
Gaston Dorren jest autorem książek Lingo: A Language Spotter's Guide to Europe (2014) i Babel. W dwadzieścia języków dookoła świata (oryg. Babel: Around the World in Twenty Languages, 2018).

THE 1ST BIAŁYSTOK CONFERENCE ON THEORETICAL AND APPLIED LINGUISTICS
In recent years linguistic conferences organized by the Białystok circle of neophilologists have established a strong tradition in terms of providing a forum for the exchange of views on the nature of language. It all started almost fifteen years ago, in 2002. The main aim of the conferences was to provide a meeting ground for a wide range of scholars: linguists, literary scholars, foreign language teaching methodologists, to mention but a few groups of researchers participating in the events. The conferences explored the relationship between language, culture, and social interaction. They were often organized in co-operation with French language scholars.
