Yesterday, My Heart Was in Bloom – In Memory of Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska
The event opens the Year of Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska, celebrated by the Union of Polish Writers Abroad and cultural partners in Poland. It is a tribute to the life and work of one of Poland’s most iconic modernist poets, often called “the Polish Sappho.”

You are warmly invited to the poetry evening Yesterday, My Heart Was in Bloom, taking place on Friday, 16 May 2025 at 7:00 PM at Klub Księgarza, Warsaw Old Town. The event will feature actress Maja Komorowska (poetic programme), based on a script by Maria Topczewska. Literary scholar Anna Nasiłowska will speak about the poet’s life and legacy. Ewa Lewandowska-Tarasiuk and Regina Wasiak-Taylor will also take part. This poetic evening is part of ZPPnO’s presence at the Warsaw International Book Fair – a key annual event bringing together Polish writers from home and abroad.
Book Fair Note:
The Warsaw International Book Fair will take place at the Palace of Culture and Science (PKiN) on 15–18 May 2025. As every year, the Union of Polish Writers Abroad will have its own stand (ground floor, stand no. 158). Many authors affiliated with ZPPnO will be present to sign their books and meet with readers. It’s a unique opportunity for conversation, exchange, and celebration of Polish literature abroad.
