Unveiling the Heritage: Krystyna Bednarczyk (1923–2011) – Polish Poet and Co-Founder of Poets and Painters' Press in London
The project of the Union of Polish Writers Abroad in London, implemented mainly by the Research Center on the Legacy of Polish Migration (ReCeLPM), goes beyond the academic aspect. Its aim is not only to deepen knowledge of the emigrant legacy of Krystyna Bednarczyk and the London-based Poets and Painters' Press, but also to promote cross-generational and intercultural dialogue between Poles living abroad and the local community. An essential part of the project is to raise awareness of ethnic minority identity and the role of women in culture and society.
The innovative project 'Unveiling the Heritage: Krystyna Bednarczyk - Polish Poet and Co-Founder of Poets and Painters' Press in London" aims to deepen our knowledge of Krystyna Bednarczyk's legacy, including her pioneering but little-known work in the field of artistic editing. It will take place in a variety of spaces: traditional, virtual and hybrid (using AR technology). Research, social and educational components are an integral part of the project, which is in line with the wider theme of understanding the impact of ethnic minority women on Britain's cultural heritage. An essential part of the project is to highlight Bednarczyk's influence on the Polish community and cultural landscape in both Britain and post-war Poland.
The project will begin with a symposium in honour of Krystyna Bednarczyk's centenary (18-19 November 2023), followed by a year-long development in a hybrid format, both in London and on virtual platforms. The project will include an international meeting of scholars, artistic workshops, the creation of oral archives and scholarly articles. The project will also include the development of a physical and virtual map identifying London sites associated with Krystyna Bednarczyk's activities. Guided tours are also planned, incorporating interactive elements using AR technology, linking physical locations in London with digitally generated content. The project will extend its educational outreach through online meetings aimed at younger generations interested in Britain's multicultural heritage.
